The Law And Christians

" How many times have you heard, “Well, that’s in the Old Testament”? Or, “We’re not under law; we’re under grace, so we don’t have to follow those Old Testament laws.” And yet without the Old Testament law, there would not be a New Testament. Consider what Jesus said to an expert in the Mosaic Law when he asked Jesus which was the greatest commandment:

And Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all, your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets” (Mat. 22:36–40)." The previous two paragraphs, extracted from American Vision & E.C. Wines commentary.

Christians view these commandments as New Testament commandments that "override" the laws of the Old Testament. However, Jesus was simply quoting the Old Testamaent. The first commandment Christ quotes is found in Deuteronomy 6:5, the second in Leviticus 19:18: “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Mat. 22-36-40 is anchored in the Old Teatament… in the law of Moses. It is abundantly clear that Christ did not come to DO AWAY WITH THE LAW… but to FULFIL THE LAW (Mat 5:17)… too, take the penalty of sin and replace it with life for those who believe upon His Name. Christ was the Messiah the Lamb of God… the Ram God gave to Abraham in the wilderness for Isaac. Until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished. (Mat 5:18) All has not been accomplished as we yet wait for the Great Day of the Lord and the White Throne Judgment, when the dead, death and hell, shall be judged according to their works. (Rev 20:11-13)

When ye see all these things fulfilled then the end is near… and a New Heavens and Earth shall soon appear; then, the Law of God shall be written upon the hearts and mind of the righteous (Jer 31:33-34; Heb 10:16-17)… and they shall be the Children of God and He shall be their God. Death and hell and every wicked thing shall be cast into a Lake of Fire and there shall be no more sin… to tempt the righteous… for God tempteh not man nor is He tempted. The New Heavens and Earth shall be pure and holy… without sin, forever and ever. For all these things shall soon take place; let the wise be prepared. Amen. Read (Rev 21:1-9; 22:6)

The Law has not been set aside, it has been fulfilled… Death and the grave no longer hold the Christian captive. However, the law remains and the Christian is to maintain the Law of God in Spirit and Truth… should a Christian fall, he has the Blood of Christ to apply to his sin… (See 1Joh 1: 7-10) There is but one sacrifice… given, once and for all sin: past, present and forever in Christ.

It is not by works alone but by faith… that the Christian appropriates the Blood of Christ; that the GRACE of God may be extended to those who faithfully endure unto the end (Heb 12:1, Jam 1:2-4 & 5:7-8)… with patients we run the race, walking not after the flesh, but in the Spirit of Life… In the newness of life… born again, not of the flesh nor of the blood of man, but by the will of God in Christ.

Let us no longer dispute the Law… for it is our school master, able to instruct us in righteousness; that we may be holy, even as God is holy. Know this… until, ye are perfect, ye are in need of a school master; but, he who is perfect lacks nothing and needeth not instruction in righteousness. For, we are to mature in Christ, keeping the law of God with our heart and mind… until we come into the fullness of our faith… masters by faith of the Law: That we may become the fullness and image of Christ in the earth… as Christians (Christ Like beings). (Eph 12:13-15)

The Law is holy and as such can not be borne in the flesh… It must be served in the spirit, by the Spirit of Truth and Life. (Ro 7:14-25), For there is no good thing in the flesh… so that, we are brought captive by our members, but set free in our spirit and intent of our heart. For the good that I wish to do, I do not; but I practice the very evil I would not do. It is not I, but sin that dwells in me, that brings my flesh to disobedience and sin. Wherein I find the principle that evil is present in my members, through the weakness of my flesh; even though, I joyfully concur with the Law of God with my inner man. (Ro 7:14-22)

But I find now another Law at work in my Spirit… so that, the law of sin in my flesh doth WAR AGAINST the Law of the Spirit, to bring me captive to the Law of sin thru my flesh. I thank God, through JESUS CHRIST our Lord; that I yet serve the Law of God with my spirit, but with the flesh the law of sin. For the Law is spiritual and can only be served in the Spirit of Life. (Ro 7:23-25)

Therefore, if this same Spirit… that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, then ye are no more dead in your sins… captives of the flesh under the penalty of the Law… ye are new creations, at liberty in Christ… through grace and the Spirit of Life, ye have victory over death. (Ro 8:1-14) Amen.

Let us rejoice knowing that the Law of God… is spiritual, holy, just and good; understanding, that we serve the Law of God in the newness of the Spirit of Life in Christ… No longer, captives of the flesh we are born again new creations; made after the likeness and image of Christ, as LIVING SPIRITS: Holy, and acceptable unto God. For as the first Adam was made after the flesh and did die… We are now made after the image of the second Adam… Jesus Christ and LIFE.(1Cor 15:45-49)

For we all have been changed…  born again. (John 1:12 -13; 3:3-6) The first man was born of the flesh and the second, born again by the Spirit of Life… in Christ. Let us rejoice, knowing that by faith we have been born again… and soon our bodies will put off the old corruptible seed, to take on a new and perfect form… For I tell you a great mystery, we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible flesh, the old man… must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality… That death may be swallowed up in VICTORY. Amen. (1Cor 15:49-54)

Let us no longer fear the Law… but embrace it, as our guide and friend. For if it were not for the Law, I would not know that I had sinned, and without knowing, I would not have need to repent, and without repentance I would not have confessed and received forgiveness in Christ. Let us all serve the Law of God, in the Spirit and Truth… that we may be made perfect in the Spirit of Life, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. (ROMANS 3:31)

  2. Ronald says:

Amen Ed… by faith we establish the law and with our spirit and mind we keep it as Paul said in Ro 7:25 & 8:1-2/
