Jesus did not come to do away with the law… but to fulfill it (to live it). "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass (away), one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Mat 5:18 KJV) "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished." (Mat 5:18 NAS) Heaven and earth have not passed away neither has the law.
Grace is the answer too sin for the believer… the faithful. However, grace is not an excuse to live in sin. Works don’t earn us salvation… However, works are the evidence of saving faith. Faith without works is dead.
Therefore, it is imperative that the Church understand that those who PROFESS faith… but have no works, are dead in their faith. Faith, is the operative faction of our salvation; it activates Grace in our lives. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph 2:8-9) Faith activates Grace… it opens the door for God’s Grace.
James put it this way: "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? Even so, faith if it hath not works, is DEAD, being alone. “Thou believest that there is one God (by faith); thou doest well: (however) the devils also believe (by faith), and tremble (knowing there is one God). The devils believe their is one God, but are not saved… because their faith/belief have no works. “BUT WILT THOU KNOW, O VAIN MAN, THAT FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD?”(James 14-20) Why do you not understand? Faith without works is dead, it will not activate the grace of God… and salvation!
Dead faith… equates to NO GRACE… Grace is the gift of God to those of the faith… those who believe. If we have saving (living) FAITH… we are alive in Christ, and not dead in our sins. Faith without works is dead (Jam 2: 17 & 20). It is not the works of the law that does the saving… It is the Grace of God given to those of the faith. It is Grace activated through LIVING (working) faith. Faith that is alive works, dead faith has no works.
It is not a proposition of either grace or works… it is by grace, thru faith that is alive, working in the faithful. Dead faith, or faith without works activates nothing. Some would teach it is by grace through an empty faith… one wihtout Godly works. The devils have this kind of faith in God… they have no good works, denying the Lord ship of Christ.
Jude said: "… certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation,(not salvation) ungodly men, TURNING THE GRACE OUR GOD INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS (an excuse to live in lasciviousness), and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." (Jude 4) These men preach grace, grace and more grace while the allow open sin to remain in the Body of Christ… this ought not to be so. For the Children of God walk in the light, they hath no concourse with darkness, nor do they excuse sin in their lives… They confess their sins and repent of them, turning away from sin. (See 1Joh 1:7-10; 2:1,3) They don’t excuse or embrace sin and the sinner… crying grace.
Paul said: "They PROFESS that they know God; but IN WORKS THEY DENY HIM, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate." (Tit 1:16)
Peter said: In 2Pet 2:20-22, that after escaping the pollutions of this world through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, if a man should be entangled and overcome by the world again… The latter end is worse than the beginning. A man whose faith is dead lives in the world, entangled with the cares of the world. Jesus, spoke of such an one in His parable of the sower and the seed… these are they that fall by the wayside, or stony ground; those that fell among the thorns and perish.
Good works are part of our faith… they are an integral part of a believers faith, testifying of the faith which activates Grace. Grace is not earned, by works… It is the gift of God unto those who… what? Believe, have faith. Living Faith activates Grace… for we are saved by Grace THROUGH faith in Jesus Christ. We don’t rely on our works to save us.
Faith and works are an integral part… one can not be separated from the other, without being DEAD! Works without faith are dead and faith without works is also dead.
Let us therefore, declare our faith in Christ… by our works of faith. That we may glorify our Father by our good works.
Your Brother in Christ;
